لقد ألفت مؤلفات كثيرة في هذا العصر للتعريف بالمذهب الزيدي، ولكن بعضها جاء فيه غلط كان ناتجاً إما عن تعصب أو عن قصور بالمعرفة في المذهب الزيدي لذا كان من الصعب على الباحث المتجرد معرفة الصواب حول تلك الفرقة الإسلامية، فكان هذا الكتاب، الذي يصلح اعتماده لمعرفة المذهب الزيدي، لأن مؤلفه حاول، وبقدر المستطاع، أن يقرب للباحث عن حقيقة الفكر الزيدي ولطالبه وسائل معرفته نقلاً من النصوص الموجودة في مؤلفات الزيدية، تاركاً بعد ذلك للطالب والباحث حريته في انتهاج ما يريد وفي الحكم بما يريده.
إذا كان العَلَم المميِّز للمذهب الزيدي، على امتداد التاريخ الإسلامي، هو التجديد المستمر دون التقيد باجتهاد فرد واحد من أئمته أو علمائه أو التمحور الفكري حول ما توصلوا إليه من اجتهادات، فإن المطلع المتتبع لتاريخ الفكر الزيدي يعلم بأنه بقي منفتحاً على جميع المذاهب الإسلامية دونما تعصب أو جمود أو انغلاق... وبقي المذهب وعلماؤه رواد تجديد وإصلاح، مؤمنين بأن الدين الإسلامي الحنيف الذي أُنزل على خاتم الأنبياء محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم ليبلغه إلى البشرية جمعاء، قد جاء واسعاً رحباً ليستوعب مختلف قضايا البشرية في مختلف المجتمعات والعصور ويضع لها الحلول الإيجابية الناجعة.
أهمية هذا الكتاب، في أنه يعرض المذهب الزيدي في أسلوب مبسط موجز، يتأتى تناوله وتفهمه لغير ذوي الاختصاص والعلماء، نضعه بين أيدي طلبة العلم والباحثين كمحصّلة قيّمة لجهد علمي لا يُستغنى عنه كمرجع موجز قيّم.
