يتصدر الكتاب بيان للسيد أحمد الحسني البغدادي حول العدوان الوحشي على العراق، وفيه يحذر من محاولات الاحتلال الأميركي بث سموم التفرقة الطائفية والعرقية تمهيداً لتجزئة العراق على القاعدة الاستعمارية القديمة -الجديدة "فرق تسد".. وينبه السيد في بيانه إلى أن الخطر الأكبر الحالي هو خطر الاحتلال الأميركي الذي لن يقف في العراق بل يسعى إلى فرض هيمنته على المنطقة العربية والإسلامية برمتها.
ويضم الكتاب مقابلات، أحاديث، خطباً، بيانات، نداءات، للسيد البغدادي تتناول أوضاع العراق في ظل الاحتلال، وفيها تظهر مواقف السيد من الاحتلال الأميركي وعملائه، فيرى أن الجهاد الدفاعي لا يحتاج الرجوع إلى فقيه أو مرجع، ويرفض الفدرالية التي يدعو إليها الأكراد لأنها ستؤدي إلى الانفصال.
وينتقد المرجعية في النجف وموقفها الغامض من وجود الاحتلال. أما دوره في العراق فيحدده بأنه يدور على محاور ثلاثة: الوحدة الوطنية.. المقاومة المشروعة.. إنهاء الاحتلال وإقامة التعددية المشروعة.
ويرى الفقيه المرجع أن مهمته الأساسية تقوم على إيصال الحس الرسالي والثوري إلى الشعب العراقي بكل شرائحه ليقف سداً منيعاً في مواجهة الاحتلال وعملائه.. ولا يفوت السيد مهاجمة النظام السابق فيحمله مسؤولية كل ما لحق بالعراق من كوارث.
ويبدو السيد البغدادي في الكتاب فقيهاً دينياً رفيع المستوى، وسياسياً وطنياً، ومشرعاً راسخ العلم وقائداً شجاعاً ومرجعية دينية موسوعية بارزة. وهو يشدد على بناء مجتمع مدني إسلامي يؤمن بالتعددية والشورية، ومن هنا سعيه لبناء حركة ثورية إسلامية تأخذ في الاعتبار كل الخصوصيات العراقية...
