كانت انتخابات الرئاسة السابعة نقلة نوعية في الحياة السياسية الإيرانية منذ انتصار الثورة عام 1979، سواء من حيث حجم المشاركة الشعبية أو نوعها، إضافة إلى النتائج التي خرجت بها هذه الانتخابات لذلك اعتبرها كثير من الباحثين ظاهرة جديدة بالدراسة والبحث. وقد أوضحت الانتخابات حجم التيارات التي ينطوي عليها المجتمع الإيراني وعمقها، إذ بمجرد أن وجدت متنفساً للنشاط السياسي أخذت زمام المبادرة في أيدي رموز التيارات السائدة، لتأتي برجل من الصف الثاني، وتضعه على قمة السلطة التنفيذية. كما أن هذه التيارات ذات البرامج والخطاب الأكثر واقعية استطاعت تعبئة الجماهير لصالح أهدافها، فأدى ذلك إلى فوزها بالانتخابات.
ولأهمية هذا الموضوع تصدى الدكتور "سعيد برزين" لوضع دراسته هذه والتي تعد في طليعة الدراسات التي تناولت مسألة التيارات التي بين أيدينا وجذورها التاريخية والفكرية في إيران بعد الثورة، وبالرغم من إقامة المؤلف في بريطانيا بوصفه أستاذاً وباحثاً في العلوم السياسية، إلا أنه استطاع في بحثه هذا تقديم صورة واضحة وخطوط رئيسية للتيارات الموجودة على الساحة الإيرانية، على الرغم من التسارع في الأحداث الذي شهدناه على الصعيد السياسي الداخلي.
