خوفاً من أن نعيش في غالب الأحيان في عالم السكن الذي لا يمثل أكثر من هندسة معمارية ملتزمة فقط بالأعراف والقواعد. وخوفاً من أن نسجن ـنفسنا وراء قضبان فكرية وإشارات قد تكون عميقة أو مجردة من التطور الحتمي ولا تعبر عن أحاسيسنا، لذا، كان هذا الكتاب الذي يتوجه إلى الإنسان العربي ليوجد لديه الشجاعة على التعبير عن حسه في بناء مسكنه، وإلى المهندس العربي الذي يترجم هذا الحس إلى تعبير واقعي وملموس.
وهو يطمح إلى التعريف بإمكانية الإبداع لدى المعماري المهندس العربي وتحقيق الرغبة والذوق لدى المالك العربي الذي يطمح وينشد الراحة في مسكنه، راحته هو وراحة عائلته، بتحقيق الخصوصية لكل قسم من أقسام المسكن ثم الانفتاح السهل لهذه الأقسام على بعضها البعض. إن النماذج العديدة من البيوت والمساكن المعروضة في هذا الكتاب، والتي استغرق جمعها مدة طويلة، يعود بعضها إلى مساكن منفذة في الكثير من البلدان العربية بأيدي بنائين ومهندسين عرب، ويعود بعضها الآخر لأعمال منفذة في بلاد أجنبية، أتت كلها لتعطي الساكن العربي خياراً واسعاً ومتنوعاً من المساكن والفيلات السكنية الصغيرة والكبيرة، ولتتوافق تماماً مع التقاليد ومع الذوق والإحساس العربي.
ولقد احتوى الكتاب على تسعة وخمسين مشروعاً تساهم معظمها بإيجاد الحلول المبتكرة للمسكن في مختلف البلاد العربية، ثم احتوى على أكثر من مائتان وخمس وثمانين مخططاً وشكلاً.
يحوي الكتاب على أكثر من 59 مشروعاً وتصميماً للمسكن العصري من الفكر المعماري العالمي وعلى أكثر من 285 مخططاً وشكلاً توضيحياً.
