يأتي هذا الكتاب في علم متشابه القرآن الكريم وأحكامه، فيما يؤكد أن كلام الباري سبحانه وتعالى لا يشبه كلام الخلق، كما لا تشبه أفعاله أفعالهم، ولهذه العلة وأشباهها يضع السيد أحمد الحسن كتابه "المتشابهات" في أربعة أجزاء تدور حول "تفسير المحكم من كتاب الله" وهو السؤال الذي أجاب عنه الإمام علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه، في قوله: "أما المحكم الذي لم ينسخه شيء فقوله عزّ وجلّ: "هو الذي أنزل عليك الكتاب منه آيات محكمات هذا أم الكتاب وأُخر متشابهات" [آل عمران 7] وإنما هلك الناس في المتشابه لأنهم لم يقفوا على معناه ولم يعرفوا حقيقته، فوضعوا له تأويلاً من عند أنفسهم بآرائهم، واستقنوا بذلك عن مسألة الأوصياء، ونبذوا قول رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وراء ظهورهم" [الحديث: وسائل الشيعة].
وبالإستناد إلى هذا الحديث يعتبر مؤلف الكتاب "إن القرآن كله محكم عند الأئمة عليهم السلام فلا يوجد متشابه عندهم، لأن المتشابه ما تشابه على صاحبه، وأهل البيت لا يشتبه عليهم القرآن فهم ترجماته بعد الرسول محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم.
ومهما يكن من رأي المؤلف وقبول البعض به أو الإبتعاد عنه فإن الكتاب يبقى مادة دسمة تجمع كل ما ورد في علم متشابه القرآن الكريم من أحاديث وروايات وآراء وتأويليات…
