إذا ما قرأنا خبراً عن لص من اللصوص، فإننا نتصور إنساناً يضع على وجهه قناعاً ويحمل في يده سكيناً أو آلة حادة، يغتنم فرصة انشغال القوم في أمر معاشهم، فيسطو على المنال ينهب ويكور وينسل. وإذا طالعنا في رواية من الروايات خبر صعلوك من صعاليك القوم، فإننا سرعان ما نرسم له صورة إنسان عابث. فأخبار اللصوص والصعاليك طالما عبقت برائحة الموت ولون الدم ومشهد الحزن، ولكن كيف لنا أن نتصور لصاً دخل داراً فنهب وكوّر وهمّ بالخروج، فإذا بصاحب الدار يعترضه، ويأذن له بالخروج من الباب، فلعله كان محتاجاً، فيتوب ويترك اللصوصية ويعود عن غيه؟ وماذا عن الصعاليك الذين رقوا لحال أحدهم، فأعادوا إليه متاعه وبعثوا منهم من أوصله إلى مقصده.
إن فيما يعرضه الكاتب من نوادر اللصوص والصعاليك في هذا الكتيب مواقف مضحكة تجعل القارئ يغير الصورة التي رسمها اللصوص والصعاليك، إن في هذه النوادر التي يسوقها الكاتب متعة تفوق متعة نوادر الحمقى والمغفلين في البعض منها، فهي تدفع القارئ إلى الضحك المستمر الذي يجلي الهم والغم عن نفسه، إن الصعلكة واللصوصية طالما شغلتا الحكام وأصحاب الشرطة، وروعتا القوم وأقلقتا مضاجعهم، لكنها ساقتا إلينا نوادر ممتعة تدفعنا إلى استقراء النادرة تلو النادرة، فيما حفظ لنا تاريخ الأدب في أخبار الصعاليك الشذّاد واللصوص، فليكن لنا في هذه الاختيارات متعة وتسلية وعبرة.
لا يخلو أي تجمع إنساني من ذلك الشخص الطريف الذي وهبه الله البديهة والحساسية النقدية المرهفة، التي تجعله يلتقط أحداث الحياة وأحوالها العادية فتتحول على يديه إلى ضحك.
وتاريخنا العربي، حافل بهذه الشخصيات المرحة الطريفة التي أبدعت ونسج الناس حولها الكثير من الطرائف والنوارد، المفعمة بروح النقد الاجتماعية والخلقي والأدبي والسياسي.
