فلما كان حديث رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم هو المصدر الثاني للتشريع الإسلامي، كان لا بد لعلماء هذه الأمة من الإهتمام به والتفرغ له، وإفراد التصانيف في مختلف جوانبه، حتى أصبح من أجلِّ العلوم الإسلامية وأفضلها.
ومن هنا، فقد قيض الله عزّ وجلّ في كل عصر من العصور منذ عصر الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وإلى أيامنا هذه طائفة من العلماء نذروا أنفسهم لخدمة هذا العلم الشريف.
ولذا ظهر في وقت مبكر علم الحديث الذي جاء نتيجة الحاجة الملحة لتأصيل القواعد بهدف الحفاظ على حديث رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم من الدس والتحريف إلى أن اكتمل هذا العلم مع مرور الزمن حتى أصبح علماً غاية في الدقة، من خلاله يستطيع الباحث أن يميز الصحيح من غيره.
ولقد كان اهتمام المؤسسات العلمية بحديث رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عظيماً بهدف تعليمه وتبليغه إلى طلاب العلم.
