يضع بشارة الخوري شهادته بين يدي التاريخ، راوياً ما حضره وحفظه من أحاديث، ومستعيناً بما اكتنزه من وثائق ترد عنها الشبهات، ومحاضر تأخذ الطريق على كل لبس. فمنذ عام 1952 وحتى وفاته عام 1964 عاش بعيداً عن السياسة مكرساً "جهوده لكتابة مذكراته "حقائق لبنانية. يقع الكتاب في 3 مجلدات، ولم يطبع منه إلا 99 نسخة فقط، فلم يكن الهدف منه البيع والتربح وإنما نشر شهادة الرئيس بشارة الخوري على جملة من الأحداث التي خَبِرها في حياته. ويركز هذا الكتاب على تدوين ما شهده الرئيس بشارة الخوري في حياته السياسية، وتبدأ التغطية الزمنية لهذا الكتاب منذ عهد المتصرفية وما شهدته طفولته عن واصا باشا وغيره من المتصرفين، مروراً بمشروع الانتداب في مؤتمر سان ريمو، ومن ثم حصول الانتداب وما لحقه من ممارسات، وما تخلله من عمله كمحامي وقاضي، ومن ثم نائب وزير، ورئيس حزب، مروراً بتوليه منصب رئيس الجمهورية كأول رئيس بعد الاستقلال، وما تخللها من تشكل للمعارضة، وليس انتهاءً بالأزمات التي تخللت مدته الرئاسية واستقالته، وما حدث بعدها من تجاذبات في الساحة اللبنانية، وأراءه عن كل ما حدث حتى زمن طباعة المذكرات
