تختزل قصيدة حميد سعيد الذي تصدر أعماله الشعرية في هذا الكتاب حالة الحياد الحداثي، فهي لم تكتف بالوقوف على الأعراف بين الثبات والتحول، بعد أن اكتشفت مبكراً مناهج الاستغراق في لحظات خروج الذات من أسر ماضيها، وما الانقطاعات التي مارسها الشاعر، وأعقبت كل مجموعة شعرية تقريباً إلا ارتحالات رمزية إلى ممالك الزمن الشعري المغاير، سرعان ما وجدت ملامحها وتحولاتها على جسد القصيدة. ومع سحر العبارة الذي يتنامى مع كل مرحلة شعرية، يمكن القول بأن حميد سعيد كان شاعراً تجسد به اللغة، وينام في فتنتها لتورق الكتابة.
حميد سعيد شاعر طليعيّ كبير. من أوائل الذين تركوا، مع الجيل الثاني من الروّاد، دفعة شديدة الخصوصية على قصيدة الحداثة. دائماً في طليعة التقدمية، يرصد من عراق الشعر والثورة، ويكتب وينتظر حرّاً في المحطّات الصعبة، قلقاً على مصير الإنسان في الكتابة، والكتابة من أجل الأسمى والأرقى في الأمّة والإنسان. فبدءاً من "شواطئ لم تعرف الدفء" مروراً بـ"لغة الأبراج الطينيّة" و"الأغاني الغجرية" و"حرائق الحضور" وحتى "طفولة الماء" وما بعده..
وكتابة حميد سعد تبحث عبر الانتروبولوجيا الطقوسية والاحتفالية عن المستقبل في التاريخيّ واليوميّ، مستقبل جميع الكائنات (بما فيه الكائنات الشعرية) الذي ترفد كل قصائده الموقّعة بروح الثورة والطفولة والوطن والحياة الأفضل بإيحاءات "المختلف" الذي يفكّك الشعريات الموروثة، ماضياً وحاضراً على السواء، ليعيد تركيبها في الأعمق تجذّراً والأبعد توهّجاً ورؤية. وعندما تقدّم أعماله الكاملة للقارئ العربي، نسدُّ فراغاً لا يستطيع إلاّ هو وقلّة من الجيل الثاني ملأه بتفرُّد الصوت واللغة والتجربة الحرّة المغايرة لتأسيس كتابة ما بعد الحداثة الشعرية في عصر عربي مأسوي "متفرّد" بالأوضاع والمصادرة والحصار.
