كثيرة هي المعاجم التي تعرض بأسلوب تقليدي كل كلمة في اللغة الإنجليزية وتذكر ما يقابلها من ألفاظ بالعربية. وهذه القواميس على رغم ما بذل فيها من جهد وعمل مضنيين فإنها لا تفي بكل حاجات القارئ والمشتغل بالترجمة، أو المتعلم إذ تأتي المفردات فيها وكأنها مجتزأة، خالية، من معناها ما يشكل على بعض من يسن لديهم إلمام باللغة الإنكليزية وسياقها.
ولعل معجم القارئ يشذ عن هذه القاعدة في عرضه للمعاني المختلفة والمحتملة للكلمة الأجنبية، إذ يذكر المؤلف فيه ما أغفله الآخرون من معاني وألفاظ، وقد توخى أن تكون الألفاظ والمفردات المقابلة لها غاية في الدقة والسهولة معبرة عن حقيقة المعنى كما ترد في سياق النصوص الإنكليزية مما يجنب المشتغل في الترجمة الابتعاد عن المعنى المطلوب والوقوع في الغلط وإنه لأمر مفيد أن يحظى الباحثون والقراء والطلبة بمعجم من هذا النوع.
