يتضمن هذا البحث أربعة أبواب رئيسية. اختص الأول منها بدراسة البيئة المغربية في عهد بنى مرين دراسة تحليلية تعتمد على وصف معطياتها المادية والاجتماعية على الخصوص وتعني بإبراز العوامل الاجتماعية والنفسية التي تفاعلت في تكوينها وتطويرها، وذلك كي لا يفاجأ القارئ بالمظاهر الأدبية والفكرية الناتجة عن هذه البيئة.
أما الباب الثاني فقد تناول التعريف بمشاهير الأدباء المغاربة الذين تم التعرض لدراستهم وتم تحليل بعض آثارهم قدر الإمكان. وخصص الباب الثالث لدراسة نظاهر الحياة الأدبية والثقافية في عهد بني مرين وبني لوطاس. وهكذا فقد كان ضرورياً أن نتناول مظاهر أخرى للحياة الأدبية أبرز فيها إنتاج المغاربة في ميدان العلوم النقلية والعقلية.
