هذا كتاب فريد في بابه وذلك لما اشتمل عليه من بيان للخطوط العامة والعريضة لعلم التعبير حيث فاق جميع الكتب المصنفة في هذا الفن بمسائله وفصوله وحسن ترتيبه وبيانه وأصالة مادته، وصحة مستنده.
في البداية تحدث الكتاب عن علم التعبير وفائدته وموضوعه والمصنفون فيه من الشيعة، من ثم تحدث عن مفهوم النوم وحقيقته، أوقاته، أقسامه، كما وتطرق لآداب النوم ولأعماله، بعد ذلك قام بتبيان الفرق بين الحلم والرؤيا والطيف، كما وحدد ما ينبغي عمله للرؤيا المكرومة، وما ينبغي فعله بعد الانتباه من النوم، من ثم بين معنى الاحتلام لغة واصطلاحاً، من ثم أكد على أن الاحتلام إنما هو ظاهرة تربوية هادفة.
وفي فصل خاص تحدث عن علة نشأت الإحتلام، وأورد الأقوال الدالة على حقيقة الرؤيا، من ثم قام بتشخيص الرؤيا الفاسدة، وبتبيان خصائصها، كما وذكر أقسام الرؤية الحسنة، وأجمل القول فيما يجب على المعبر وما ينبغي له الاعتماد عليه عندما يسرد رؤيته، كما وبين علة التغاير والتخالف بين صور الأشياء في عالم الطبيعة وعالم المثال، وكأمثلة على الرؤيا قام بذكر أمثلة عن منامات غريبة رآها بعض الأشخاص، كما وفسر بعض الأحاديث التي تتحدث عن الرؤيا نذكر منها: إن المؤمن إذا رسخ من الإيمان رفع عنه الرؤيا"، "إن الرؤيا في آخر الزمان على سبعين جزء من أجزاء النبوة"، كما وذكر ما ينبغي عمله لرؤية النبي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، وكذلك ما ينبغي عمله لرؤية أحد الأنبياء أو الأئمة أو أي شخص آخر، وأخيراً ذكر بعض الصور الكلية للأحلام المختلفة مرتباً إياها على أحرف الهجاء في اللغة العربية.
