يمثل مقرر الكيمياء العامة العملية (5183) الجزء العملي لمقررات الكيمياء العامة، وهو مقرر إجباري لتخصص الكيمياء، برنامج التربية، ويدرس عادة بعد مقرر الكيمياء العامة (2)، (5182) أو متزامناً معه. يهدف العمل في مختبرات الكيمياء العامة بشكل عام، إلى مساعدة الطلبة على تعلم بعض المبادئ الأساسية في الكيمياء، وخاصة تلك التي ترد في المقررات النظرية، ولتحقيق ذلك لا بد من تعلم الطرق والأساليب في الكيمياء، كالإستعمال الصحيح للأدوات البسيطة المستخدمة في المختبر، وبسبب الإرتباط الوثيق بين المقرر العملي ومحتوى المقررات النظرية، لابد للطالب من مراجعة المبادئ النظرية للتجربة الواردة في المقررات النظرية قبل إجراء التجربة، لتساعده على فهم أسس التجربة وعلى تفسير النتائج التي يحصل عليها. يشتمل هذا المقرر تجارب بسيطة واضحة تعطي نتائج واضحة ومحددة، ولكن ذلك لا يعني خلوها من المتعة والإثارة. مع أن هذا ليس هو الهدف المنشود بالضرورة، وبالتالي فإن مهمة الداس تقتصر على التثبت من صحة المعلومات في المقررات النظرية. وبالطبع فإن إجراء الدارس لهذه التجاب لابد أن يكسبه الخبرة المطلوبة في التعامل مع الأدوات الزجاجية المخبرية، والأجهزة البسيطة والمواد الكيميائية. لذا يجب على الدارس فهم التجربة جيداً، وفهم ما سيقوم به، ولماذا يجربه بالطريقة الموضحة، كما أن عليه الإنتباه إلى تفاصيل نتائج التجارب وتسجيل ملاحظاته ونتائجه أولاً بأول ومحاولة تفسيرها.
