هذا القاموس هو من المعاجم الثنائية اللغة. اعتمد فيه واضعوه على "قاموس وبستر" الشهير، فجاءت المعاني بالعربية، مبنية على دلالاتها الإنكليزية، فساعدهم ذلك، على إبراز التمايزات الدقيقة بين اللغتين: المترجم عنها، والمترجم إليها، إنه قاموس عصري بإخراجه القشيب، ولوحاته العلمية الملونة ومعانيه الجديدة، ومصطلحاته المستحدثة في اللغة والتجارة والطب والعلوم والفنون... وهو ثر بمفرداته، إذ ترجم المعنى الواحد مترادفات عديدة، حتى الكلمات العامية، لم يجد واضعوه حرجاً في ذكرها، إلى جانب الكلمة الفصحية.
إلى جانب هذا حفل قاموس الشامل بفوائد قيمة تشرح أصل الكلمة (تركي، لاتيني...) وتشير إلى أن استعمالها: قديم أو حديث أو مهجور ممات.. وزيادة في الإيضاح ذيل القاموس بملحق للمصطلحات العلمية ومختصراتها، وهذا ما أضاف إلى القاموس ثروة لفظية وغناءً فكرياً.
