يعتبر هذا القاموس مرجعاً مفيداً للقارىء العادي والمترجم والدارس على حد سواء. وقد تم تغطية مفردات اللغة الإنكليزية التي يمكن أن ترد عند مطالعة غالبية الكتب الإنكليزية أو ترجمتها أو دراستها. كما لم يتم الإغراق في تفاصيل لا لزوم لها ترهق الباحث عن معنى كلمة معينة, دون التأثير على سعة التغطية المتوخاة من هذا القاموس. وقد راعى المؤلف في تبويبه بعض النقاط الأساسية: ترتيب الكلمات العربية بحسب كتابتها, للتخفيف على مستخدم القاموس مشقة إعادة كل كلمة الى جذرها, اعتماد التهجئة البريطانية في الكلمات الإنكليزية, تقليل المرادفات الإنكليزية لكل كلمة حتى لا يتخم القاموس بما لا يلزم, إغناء القاموس بالعديد من الكلمات العصرية التي أصبحت كثيرة الاستعمال.
