يدور موضوع الكتاب حول الصناعات الإعلامية أو ما يُعرف بفضاء الصناعات الثقافية والتحول نحو عصر الصورة والصوت والكلمة في مختلف وسائل الإتصال، من هنا أراد الدكتور الصادق رابح تقديم رؤية مختلفة لثقافة هذا العصر بتسليطه الضوء على دور الإعلام والتكنولوجيات الحديثة في المجتمع، وذلك من خلال البحث عن معانٍ للإتصال جديدة تبحث في المضامين الثقافية التي تحملها التكنولوجيات الجديدة والإنعكاسات المترتبة عنها، إضافة إلى الكيفيات التي سيُدار بها الإقتصاد الجديد للمعرفة الرقمية.
وفي هذا السياق يناقش المؤلف الإتجاهات الإيجابية والسلبية للتكنولوجيا الحديثة ويحث على قراءتها قراءة تأويلية فاحصة تشمل جميع أوجه الأشياء، وهو ما يطلق عليه باختصار: "القراءة التحليلية المعرفية المؤسسة ... ما يعني في حالة وسائل الإعلام، قراءتها قراءة نقدية تعتمد منهجيات ولإجراءات غير تلك التي تستعملها هذه الوسائل نفسها ...".
لا يكتفي المؤلف بالقراءة النقدية، وإنما يكشف عن الأيادي الخفية لكل من الشبكات والسوق العالمي في عملها الدؤوب من أجل نسج شبكة عالمية موحدة تصب في صالح الدول الرأسمالية الغربية وأميركا بالتحديد التي سيطرت على التجارة الالكترونية، ووضعت الكثير من المجهود الدعائي كجزء من الحرب النفسية على دول الجنوب وخاصة في حالة الحروب، يقول المؤلف: "إنها ثقافة البنوك العالمية والمنظمات العالمية التجارية واللوبيات الإقليمية والقنوات الإعلامية العالمية مثل (CNN والـ BBC) ، والشركات متعددة الجنسيات . فهذه الأقطاب القديمة الجديدة أصبحت تمثل أسياد العالم الجدد ...".
