لقد اتسم الإسلام باليسر فقد يسرّ الله تعالى على عباده بقراءة القرآن الكريم، بأن أُنزل على قراءات عدة، وقراءة أبي عمرو بن العلاء إحدى هذه القراءات المروية بالتواتر، والمتصل سندها برسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم.
ولما اتسمت قراءة أبي عمرو بخصوصية بعض الظواهر اللغوية، وكثرة الظواهر اللغوية فيها بشكل عام، عمل المؤلف على الوقوف على أهم تلك الظواهر اللغوية، وجعلها موضوع بحث هذا الكتاب.
وقد جاءت الدراسة في تمهيد، وثلاثة فصول، وكل فصل في مبحثين، حيث عرض المؤلف في التمهيد لحياة أبي عمرو، والخلاف في اسمه، ثم رصد شيوخه، وتلاميذه، ثم تحدث عن إسناد قراءة أبي عمرو، وعن راوييه.
أما فصول الدراسة، فقد جاء الفصل الأول في مبحثين تحدث الأول عن المماثلة نطقياً، ودرس في المبحث الثاني الملامح الأكوستيكية في المماثلة بالتطبيق على الأجهزة (المخبرية)، وفي الفصل الثاني تحدث المؤلف عن (المدّ والإمالة) فأشار إلى تعريف المدّ، وأسبابه، وأقسامه، والعوامل المؤثرة فيه، ثم عرض منهج أبي عمرو في المدّ.
وفي الجزء الثاني من هذا الفصل، تحدث عن الإمالة بين القدماء والمحدثين، وعرض منهج أبي عمرو في الإمالة بقسميها: الإمالة الكبرى، والتقليل، ورصد المبحث الثاني الملامح الأكوستيكية في المدّ والإمالة في قراءة أبي عمرو، أما الفصل الثالث فقد تحدث عن المقطع العربي، وقد جاء الفصل في مبحثين هما: المقطع نطقياً حيث أشار المؤلف إلى تعريف المقطع ومفهومه بين الدارسين.
أما المبحث الثاني، فقد أشار فيه إلى أثر إسقاط الهمز في الملامح الأكوستيكية، وبيّن بنية المقطع بعد حذف الهمز، ثم وقف على حدود المقطع في ضوء المعطيات الأكوستيكية، وقد إختار الإدغام والهمز، لأنهما من القضايا الخلافية في الدراسات الصوتية.
