بعد الحرب العالمية الأولى مباشرة يجد كل من "تومي" وتوبنس كاولي" نفسيهما بلا مال على الإطلاق، وبلا وظيفة! ولهذا قررا أن يكتبا إعلاناً عنهما يقولان فيه: "شابان مغامران مستعدان للعمل في أي شيء والذهاب إلى أي مكان". فأرسل السيد "ويتينجتون" في طلبهما، وكان نذير شؤم عليهما حيث جلب إليهما الخطر الداهم، فكان يجب عليهما أن يبذلا أقصى ما لديهما من نجابة ونبوغ للنجاة بنفسيهما، وكذلك لإنقاذ حياة شخصية "جين فين" التي تكتنفها الغموض!
