للمرة الأولى، ينكب باحث عربي على دراسة المواضيع المتعلقة بالشتات اليهودي ودور الطوائف اليهودية في العالم، وخصوصاً في الولايات المتحدة والاتحاد السوفياتي. وسبق لاختصاصيين غربيين أن عالجوا هذه المواضيع، من وجهة نظر غربية، وقد اتسم بعضها بطابع جدي وعلمي. وتزداد أهمية هذه الدراسة التي أعدها الوزير السابق ميشال إده صاحب الشخصية الغنية والمتعددة الاختصاص، بالمقاربة المبتكرة في معالجة هذا الموضوع، البالغ الأهمية والخطورة، في ضوء الأحداث الأخيرة وما أحاط بها.
فميشال إده تمكن من تجاوز الإطار التاريخي البحث للموضوع في سبيل تفسير وتحليل جوانب عدة غير مفهومة على حقيقتها في التاريخيين اليهودي والصهيوني. وأفلح في إلقاء الضوء على عناصر غير مقروءة في الصراع العربي-الإسرائيلي. ومع المواجهة التي تنطوي على أحداث معاصرة ومعاشة مستمرة في تطوراتها وتفاعلاتها المختلفة، يتراءى حجم الصراع الذي نشأ في المنطقة، وحقيقة القضية في أبعادها التاريخية والدينية والقومية والإنسانية.
وهي نواح لحقها كثير من الشوائب والمغالطات، ظهرت نتائجها في وسائل المعالجة والمواجهة التي أدت إلى ما أدت إليه من استمرار الأخطاء، وإهدار الحقوق، وتعريض الكيانات للتفكك والزوال. فبداية مواجهة التحدي تكمن في المعرفة. فكيف إذا كان الأمر يتعلق بالمصير، على نحو ما دلت وتدل عليه الوقائع والتطورات، وما نشهده جميعاً في حياتنا اليومية، على الصعيدين اللبناني والعربي.
وقد انصرف ميشال إده باكراً إلى البحث في الشؤون اليهودية والصهيونية، وقدر له أن يجمع من المراجع والكتب والدراسات العائدة إلى هذه الشؤون، وما يشكل مكتبة متخصصة فريدة من نوعها. وهو ما أهله لأن يصبح مرجعاً موثوقاً به في كل ما يعود إلى اليهودية والصهيونية والصراع العربي-اليهودي.
