لقد أمكن التنبؤ أن أواخر القرن العشرين ستشهد ظهور الثورة الثالثة في الطب. فالثورة في عالم الجراحة بدأت باكتشاف مادة الأثير المخدرة عام 1846. والثورة الثانية كانت باكتشاف المضاد الحيوي البنسلين عام 1941. والعالم اليوم على عتبة الثورة، أي "الثورة السلوكية"، وهذه الثورة تختلف عن الثورتين الماضيتين بكونها تمثل بعث الاهتمام من جديد بالمبادئ السلوكية التي سبق واكتشفت ومورست من قبل المعالجين القرون الماضية وهذا البعث الجديد للأسس السلوكية في الطب قد انبثق وتطور عن الاكتشافات والإبداعات النوعية في ميادين الطب وعلم النفس معاً، وبالتآزر بينهما ولعل السؤال الذي يتبادر إلى الذهن في هذا السياق هو: ما الذي حرك هذه اليقظة من جديد نحو الاهتمام بالجوانب السلوكية للحصة من قبل المختصين بالعناية بالصحة والمرض على حد سواء؟ هذا ما يحاول المؤلف الكشف عنه من خلال فصول هذا الكتاب وذلك في محاولة لإدخال موضوعات الطب النفسي السلوكي إلى المكتبة العربية، وإلى الخوض في أصول نشأته وأسس نظرياته. ومن الموضوعات التي يتوسلها المؤلف وصولاً إلى غايته هذه: التقنيات السريرية، وأدوات وأجهزة النقدية البيولوجية الراجعة وإعداد المريض، وأساليب التقويم والتشخيص، وتدريبات الاسترخاء، والتدرب على علاج التوتر النفسي. وإلى ذلك ذيل هذا الكتاب.
