لو أن سائلاً يسأل عن روح العلم وجوهرالمعرفة وأساس الحضارة، لأجاب قائلاً: إنه المنهج، ودليله على هذا، أن العلوم لها مبادئ منهجية يقاد بموجبها العقل، وأن المعرفة التي لا تتقدم بصورة تنظيمية، هي كلامعرفة، وأن الحضارة هي وصف لمستوى معين من الوجود العمراني للإنسان تنظيم فيه الحاجات الإنسانية مع قوانين الفعل الخلقي. ومستلزم هذه البادئة أن المنهج لا يدل إلا على ما هو إيجابي، وضده، أي اللامنهج، يحيل إلى الفوضى الفكرية والسلوكية. ولهذا الاعتبار، بات سؤال المنهج في دائرة التفكير، ودائرة البحث، ودائرة السلوك، يكتسي قيمة معتبرة، ولأجله تتشكل الفرق البحثية، ومراكز التفكير، ودرءاً لما يترتب على اللامنهج من فوضى وتضييع المقصد وتبديد العمليات العقلية في ما لا يؤسس لفكر ولا يشرع لفهم نوعي للوجود ككل.
هو المنهج، فكرياً كان أو بحثياً أو سلوكياً؟ ذو صبغة كونية تفارق خصوصيات حقول المعرفة؟ أم إن الصيغ المنهجية لا تفهم إلا في إطار الأنساق الفكرية والنظريات التفسيرية المقارنة لمنظومة العلوم؟ هل، المنهج مضموناً وأدوات يجوز وصفه بالحيادية القيمية أم إنه لا يحق إبستيمولوجياً الفصل بين القيمة والخيارات المنهجية للباحث؟ إلى أي مدى يمكن الخوض في وجود المنهج ضمن النماذج المعرفية التفسيرية والتحليلية؟ وعليه، فتبدل النماذج يستتبع معه تبدل المنهج الذي هو جزء منها؟ وهل ثمة من أثر للثقافة على لون المنهجية في الفكر والبحوث والسلوك؟
إن هذه التساؤلات يسعى هذا الكتاب لكي يلامسها ويفكر فيها، وأصلاً بين المنهج في مباحثه الفلسفية، والإعلامية والتاريخية والاجتماعية والنفسية، وهي المباحث التي تضمنها هذا الكتاب، وسعى لكي يفكر في إشكالاتها المنهجية وحدودها التفسيرية.
