الأرملة رواية تحمل من ثناياها حقائق تبتعد بقارئها عن متاهات الأساطير المصطنعة، وتجعله يعيش وقائع ملموسة مقدودة من قلب امرأة ليس في حياتها إلا مواجهة القلق والحيرة وعواطف الأيام الآتية إليها من الألم والعلم والحلم، ومن الآه المزروعة في طيات ابتسام وهي تواجه مصاعب العمر وحيدة. تسبع من ذاتها على قدرها أشعة خير كي تتابع خطاها على دروب العطاء.
هذا الواقع، يدفعنا إلى القول، بجزم إن في رواية "الأرملة" للأدبية بقاعي، واقعية، مجزرة في أعماق الأحداث والأشخاص والزمان والمكان. وتفرق العقدة في مسار النص تبعاً لكثافة الأحداث وترابطها وتتابعها مما يجعل القارئ مقوداً نحو النهاية، وربما يتمنى أن تطول الرواية لأن مضمونها الواقعي تخرج عن رتابة السرد الروائي المعروف، إلى الظرفية المعاشة في انسياب عاطفي وإنساني نحتاجه في زمن الإنسانية القاحلة والعواطف الذابلة... في رواية الأرملة جمعت إيمان البقاعي تجاربها إلى تجارب الآخرين وصاغتها بأسلوب رشيق ساخر ووزعتها لوحات يربط بينها خيط روائي واضح.
حين قدم الرجل لي بسخاء كل ما أردته من عطر وثياب وأحذية ومال، كان ما يزال لدي وقت أتأفف فيه، أجلس فيه في ظل رجل نسيت اسمي في ظل اسمه، نسيت قلمي في ظل قلمه، نسيت طموحاتي في ظل طموحاته... تسربلت، وأنا في قمة الأخذ عاطفياً ومادياً، بالوحدة-تجمدت، لم أنم... صرت جارية في قسم الحريم.
رفضت الوحدة مع الدلال والتسري وملأت، اليوم، وقتي حتى الإرهاق بالعمل المتواصل الذي أعشقه، أحبه، وأتابعه بشغف.
أفتش عن كلمة الواحدة في قاموسي فلا أجدها. نقدر، إن منحنا حرية تحمل المسؤولية، أن نقتل الساحرة الشريرة التي تعبث بأفكارنا، والتي تدعي الوحدة.
