تمثل مادة هذا الكتاب فهرساً تحليلياً لمخطوطات الطب والصيدلة والبيطرة وهو الجزء الرابع من فهارس مخطوطات مكتبة المتحف العراقي بعد أن صدر ثلاثة أجزاء الأول عن مخطوطات اللغة وعلومها والثاني عن مخطوطات الفقه وأصوله والثالث عن مخطوطات الموسيقى والغناء والسماع.
أما المعلومات المدونة في هذا الفهرس فهي عنوان المخطوط واسم المؤلف مع ترجمته وما ورد من اختلافات في المصادر والمراجع وذكر شيئ من أول المخطوط. بعد ذلك تم الحديث عما يحتويه المخطوط من أقسام وأبواب وفصول وأعطي وصف موجز عن طبيعة المخطوط ونوع كتابته واسم الناسخ وتاريخ النسخ إن وجد أو تحديد فترته الزمنية وذكر ما عيه من حواش وشروح وقراءات وسماعات ومقابلات وأخيراً تم الإشارة إلى المصادر والمراجع التي ذكرت عنوان المخطوط أو اسم المؤلف وهل أن الكتاب قد طبع أم لا وأماكن وجود نسخ خطية أخرى منه في خزائن المخطوطات في العالم.
وختم هذا الفهرس بكشافات رتبت على ترتيب حروف الهجاء، الفهرس الأول لعناوين المخطوطات حسب لغاتها العربية والفارسية والتركية. وفهس للأعلام أشرت فيه إلى أسماء النساخ والمالكين لتمييزهم عن المؤلفين. وفهرس للأمكنة مع فهرس لأوائل المخطوطات. أما الأرقام التي ظهرت في هذه الكشافات فتمثل رقم تسلسل المخطوط في هذا الفهرس.
