الصنوبري هو ضبّي النسب حلبي البلد، ولكن النسبة التي غلبت عليه هي الصنوبري. وقال عنه ابن عساكر في كتابه بأنه شاعر محسن، أكثر أشعاره في وصف الرياحين والأنوار. وهذا ما يقوله عنه أكثر من ذكروه. ونظرة سريعة في شعره الذي ضمّه هذا الديوان، تدل على شغفه بالطبيعة، ومناظر الزهر والشجر والغدران والأنهار، ومن أكثر من شيء عرف به، بالإضافة إلى ذلك فللشاعر قصائد في الغزل والخمر والمدح والهجاء والرثاء والفخر، وغير ذلك من موضوعات.
