يعد هذا الكتاب من الكتب القيمة والنادرة في علم التصوف, ففيه جمع لأنواع من العلوم مثل: التفسير والحديث والفقه والتصوف والنحو والأصول. وقد قصد المؤلف في كتابه إيضاح طريق العارفين والموحدين, وإبانة مناهج السالكين. إن محور اهتمام علم التصوف هو تأصيل علاقة الإنسان بخالقه من خلال دراسة أسرار النفس بالعمل عى تزكيتها وفق مجاهدات وعبادات مقصدها التقوى وسبيلها الإحسان. والمرجع في هذا السبيل هو القرآن الكريم والبيان النبوي, وعلى هذا الأساس رسمت السبل للمجاهدة والسلوك في طريق الحق والبحث عن الحقيقة كل على حسب تجربته وما وصل إليه من الحقائق فأصبح لهذا الفن مدارسه التي أسسها ربانيو هذا العلم. وكان من أهم ما تناوله الكتاب: الاعتماد على العمل, مقارنة بين إرادة التجريد وإرادة الأسباب, سوابق الهمم, أسرار الدعاء والإجابة, عدم الشك بالوعد, بين الموارد والأعمال, عدم الشك بالوعد, أمراض القلوب, حسن الظن بالله, اتقاء الصحبة السيئة, الاستدراج الإلهي, وغيرها من المواضيع الهامة.
النفزي: هو محمد بن عبد الله بن مالك بن إبراهيم بن يحيى, النفزي نسباً, الرندي مولداً, الشاذلي طريقة, الفاسي مسكناً, الشهير بابن عباد. ولد عام 733هجرية, برندة وبها نشأ, وقد حفظ القرآن الكريم وهو في السابعة, وأخذ في تحصيل العلوم. وقد ألف تآليف كثيرة وتصانيف بديعة, سلك طريق التصوف الى أن أصبح علماً من أعلامه يشار إليه في حل المشكلات. توفي رحمه الله سنة 792هجرية بمنزله بكدية البراطل.
