هذا المعجم والمعاجم في سلسلة المغني الإنكليزية العربية والعربية الإنكليزية يكتمل بعضها بعضاً من حيث الغاية المتوخاة منها وهي تعليم اللغة الإنكليزية عن طريق اللغة العربية وتعليم اللغة العربية عن طريق اللغة الإنكليزية، والمعنى هنا من كلمة التعليم هو تحديد مدلول الكلمة العربية بمدلول الكلمة الإنكليزية أولاً وتحديد مدلول الكلمة الإنكليزية بمدلول الكلمة العربية ثانياً ليتمكن مطالع المعجم من أن يفهم كل مدلول فهماً واضحاً في الذهن.
ومعجم المغني الفريد هذا العربي الإنكليزي لا يطمح أن يفي بحاجات كل محتاج لأنه وسط بين الكبير والصغير وهمه ترجمة الكلمات العربية الأساسية حتى تكون هذه نبرساً يهتدي به المبتدئ والمتقدم والعالم على حد سواء، ويفيد للعالم خاصة في توفير البنية التحتية للغة العربية. وفي المعجم أمثلة علة استعمال الكلمة العربية في نواح مختلفة من المعنى كما فيه عبارات اصطلاحية وعبارات مشهورة في الأدب وغيره وعبارات جارية مجرى الحكمة والعرف وغيرها كثير وكلها مترجمة بمقابلاتها في اللغة الإنكليزية بالتدقيق.
أما المصطلحات العلمية الحديثة في اللغة العربية فقد أغفل معظمها ولم يذكر منها إلا الذي تعارف عليه أربابها، ومن مزايا هذا المعجم أنه أساسي يمكن اختصاره وتبسيطه ويمكن الرقي به وتوسيعه ما أمكن إلى حد كبير.
