هذا الكتاب يوثق ما جرى في الملتقى الإسلامي الأول الذي عقد في مجمع الشيخ أحمد كفتارو والذي حمل عنوان الاجتهاد بين التجديد والتفريط, وهذا الكتاب يحلل كثيراً من المحاضرات الملقاة في ذلك الملتقى, ويحاول أن يقف عند النقاط التي يجب الوقوف عندها, لكنه لا يكنفي بالتحليل فقط. إن الهدف الرئيس لهذا الكتاب هو أن يرصد آراء وأفكار نخبة مميزة من علماء الأمة الإسلامية بخصوص موضوع حساس جداً هو (الاجتهاد الاسلامي), في مرحلة حرجة جداً ليس فقط بالنسبة للأمتين العربية والإسلامية, ولكن بالنسبة لتاريخ العالم أجمع. وبذلك حاول الكتاب أن يجمع صورة بانورامية غنية أوضح فيها كبار علماء المسلمين الذين شاركوا في الملتقى نظرتهم الإسلامية الى الإجتهاد والتجديد, مفرقين بينه وبين التسيب والتفلت, منطلقين من ثوابتهم الإسلامية باتجاه ما يكفل للإسلام حل كل طوارىء الحياة ومستجداتها, في ظل شرع الله.. لا خارج خيمته وحكمه.
