وإذا كان عبد الصبور قد استعان بلحن اليوت ولم يتوفق في تلحينه، فإن السياب قد سمع الأغنية من اليوت، واستطاع بعد ذلك أن يمسك بتلابيب الغناء، وينشد أجمل أنشودة في الشعر العربي الحديث. ومهما يكن من تأثير لاليوت على السياب فإن شاعرية السياب تنفذ من خلال هذا التأثير لتشكل بنفسها صورة مستقلة عن المصدر، ويكفي السياب فخراً أنه يمكن قراءة "أنشودة المطر" والاستمتاع بها دون حاجة للرجوع إلى اليوت، رغم كل ما فيها من ظلال استشفها السياب من "الأرض اليباب" وأود أن أبين هنا كيف يمكن أن يحول الشاعر مصدراً كان على دراية به إلى شاعرية أصيلة بعيدة عن بصمات التأثير الظاهرية، شأنه في ذلك شأن كل شاعر أصيل يمتلك القدرة على تحويل الأصل إلى فرع لا يقل قدرة وشأناً.
