ما من معطيات خالصة إلا وتؤول إلى نتائج إيجابية، من باب الاستنباط، وليس من باب الحكم. ومن ثم فإنه يفترض من "متقصي موضوع الترجمة" والمستفيض في بحثها، التسلح بأدوات النص، والكتابة، والقراءة، والتأويل، وألا يكون ملماً بثقافة اللغتين، المترجم منها والمترجم إليها وحسب، بل يفترض أن يكون على وعي تام بنظريات تحليل المعنى، وعلى دراية واسعة بقوانين التشكيل البلاغي والنحوي، وأنساق التلقي لكل من اللغتين.
وتقف نظرية الترجمة اليوم على النقيض من كل المعايير وهي تشدد على امتلاك الأداة المثلى والمقدرة على التوصيل، وتهدف في جوهرها على تفسير عمليات النقل بالاعتماد على مبادئ ألسنية. ويشغل هذا التوجه جزءاً كبيراً من اهتمام المترجم الذي لا يكتفي بوصف تلك العمليات وربما لن يجد في بعض التنظيرات الحديثة أكثر من مجرد افتراضات.
وإذا كانت الترجمة بمفهومها العام هي تحويل النصوص من المصدر إلى الهدف، فإن ما يهمنا هو استراتيجيات انتقال تلك النصوص أساليبها؛ ولذلك ارتأينا أن نعتمد منهجاً لا يتمسك بجملة من المعايير للحكم باكتمال الترجمة، وإنما ينطلق من تأمل تلك الأساليب بدلاً من تعقب الترجمة ذاتها.
