شهدت جامعات العراق ومؤسسات التعليمية في الربع الأخير من القرن المنصرم نشاطاً واسعاً في مجالات تعريب التعليم الجامعي المختلفة، وذلك بفضل القرار الصادر من مجلس التعليم العالي والبحث العلمي الذي ألزم الجامعات والمؤسسات التعليمية بالتدريس اللغة العربية في جميع المراحل الدراسية، مما نجم عنه تأليف وترجمة الكتب على أوسع نطاق، وهو أمر لم تألفه الجامعات من قبل.
وفي الوقت الذي كان يفترض فيه تصاعد هذه النهضة المباركة في التعريب في ضوء الخبرات الواسعة التي اكتسبها أعضاء الهيئة التدريسية وشيوع التعريب والتدريس باللغة العربية في الأوساط الجامعية، إلا أن العكس من ذلك تماماً قد حصل في السنوات الأخيرة، إذ يشهد التعريب الجامعي حالياً إنحساراً شديداً وعودة غير محمودة للتدريس ثانية باللغة الإنكليزية في معظم التخصصات العلمية، بدعاوى ترصين الحالة العلمية والحفاظ على جودة التعليم ومواكبة مستجدات العلوم والمعارف المختلفة.
تسلط هذه الدراسة الضوء على واقع تعريب التعليم الجامعي في العراق وتأشير بعض معوقاته وإقتراح بعض سبل النهوض به.
