ولعل حالة التفكك العام، وما رافقها من نزاعات تناحرية على السلطات المحلية ومن حركات(استقلال ذاتي)،أتاحت للحشاشين أن يلعبوا دوراً يحسب له حساب بين القوى المختلفة.وتبين لنا الدراسة التي بين أيدينا أن (الحشاشين) انخرطوا في لعبة المحاور والنتاقضات وموازين القوى في المنطقة بصورة شديدة براغماتية وفي كل الاتجاهات ، حتى بدا دورهم ملتبساً على الدوام تقريباً.فقد أقاموا من وقت الى آخر علاقات (تعاون) مع جميع القوى المذكورة مثلما اصطدموا بكل منها صداماً قاتلاً في وقت من الأوقات.لقد كان خطهم الثابت هو ( المحافظة على الذات) بأي ثمن .وفي هذا السبيل استخدموا (التقية) ولعبة (الظاهر والباطن) اللتين ميزتا عقيدتهم استخدماً فاحشاً.
