لأبي سعيد الحزاز وجهة نظر في الشريعة تتفق على ظاهرها مع وجهات نظر المدارس الفقهية الإسلامية ولا يخلو من تعارض مع بعضها الآخر. فقد أصر الحزاز " أن كل باطن يخالف ظاهراً فهو باطل .. وهو بهذا كغيره من صوفية بغداد حاول التقريب بين التصوف الذي فقد سحره وطابعه الزهدي عند الناس وبين المذاهب الفقهية، أو يالمصطلح الصوفي، بين الشريعة والحقيقة، فأصر على أن ليس للشريعة وجهان ظاهر وباطن. هذا الرأي ضمنه رسائله المعروفة برسائل (الحزاز) وهي في الأصل مخطوط محفوظ في مكتبة قسطموني العامة، بتركيا يقع ضمن مجموعة من رسائل في التصوف للترمذي وإبن الوزان والقشيري وغيرهم.
يتضمن هذا الكتاب تحقيق الأستاذ "قاسم السامرائي" لرسائل الحزاز وقد انقسم إلى جزئين الجزء الأول: 1- كتاب الصفاء، 2- كتاب الضياء، 3- كتاب الكشف والبيان، أما الجزء الثاني فتضمن 1- كتاب الفراغ، 2- كتاب الحقائق.
إن أهم ما جاء به المتصوفة ومنهم الحزاز بيان " أن التصوف لا يعني فقط شدة العناية بالدين على ظواهره ورخصه بل مراعاة أحكام الشريعة بشدة دونها شدة التعصب أيضا، إذ إن التصوف هو الأخذ بالأحسن والأتم احتياطاً للدين، وتعظيما لما أمر الله به عباده واجتناباً لما نهاهم الله عنه ...".
