يحتوي كتاب الدكتور "عبد المجيد محمد السوسوة" على خمسة دراسات في الاجتهاد وفهم النص. في الدراسة الأولى تكلم عن تعريف الاجتهاد والفرق وبينه وبين القياس ومشروعية الاجتهاد وشروطه، ومحل الاجتهاد وحكمه، وحجته. وفي الدراسة الثانية تكلم عن الاجتهاد بين الإصابة والخطأ وطبقات المجتهدين، وتجزؤ الاجتهاد، واجتهاد الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وخلو العصر من المجتهدين.
أما الدراسة الثالثة فخصها للتعريف بالتقليد، ولتحديد الفرق بينه وبين الإتباع ولحكم التقليد، ولتاريخ التقليد والإفتاء ولمدى تقيد التقليد بمذهب معين. وأفرد الدراسة الرابعة لمسألة العلاقة بين حاكمية الوحي واجتهاد العقل، شارحاً مفهوم حاكيمة الوحي واجتهاد العقل، شارحاً مفهوم حاكمية الوحي، ومفهوم اجتهاد العقل، وأسس العلاقة بين الوحي والعقل، وأثر هذه العلاقة. وأما الدراسة الخامسة والأخيرة فخصصها لموضوع الأسس العامة لفهم النص، والمتمثلة في: الضبط اللغوي للنص ووضعه في موضعه، والتكامل الدلالي بين النصوص، والاهتداء بالمقاصد في فهم النص.
