يشكو مسرح الطفل من ندرة المسرحيات الموجهة للأطفال عامة وأطفال مرحلة ما قبل المدرسة خاصة، بل إن المسرح المدرسي بصفة خاصة في عالمنا العربي وفي الأردن نجد إن المسرح المدرسي أصبح هامشياً. فإذا كان الهدف الأول من مسرح الطفل هو الترويج عن الصغار، والتنفيس عن رغباتهم المكبوتة وتحريرهم بعض الوقت من القيود الاجتماعية المفروضة عليهم في حياتهم العصرية التي يعيشونها، فان لمسرح الطفل أو للمسرح المدرسي هدف ثقافي وتربوي، باعتباره وسيلة للصراع من اجل حياة أفضل، بجانب اعتباره وسيلة للترفيه والبعد بقدر محدود من صراعات الحياة. ولا نعني الترفيه الذي يمتهن عقل الطالب وقدراته الخلاقة، ولكن الترفيه الهادف الذي يساعد الطفل على تمثل ثقافة بيئته، وإدراك قدراته هو حتى يستطيع إن يتكيف مع ثقافة مجتمعه
