إن الحديث عن الأسماء العربية ومشتقاتها ومعانيها بدأ منذ بدأت المعاجم العربية والدراسات اللغوية تظهر للعيان قبل ألف عام ونيف، وما زالت جهود الباحثين واللغويين والأدباء تنصب وتتشعب يوما بعد يوم من أجل إثراء اللغة وبث الحياة الجديدة والمصطلحات المستحدثة فيها، وهناك الكثير من المحاولات التي أبصرت النور في هذا الميدان، وتصدت هذه المحاولات لمعرفة معاني الأسماء العربية ومدلولاتها. الا أن ما يميز هذه المحاولة التي بين أيدينا والمقدمة للناطقين بالعربية هي أنها قد اعتمدت على مصادر ومراجع كثيرة كان أكثرها حضورا معجم لسان العرب للسان الدين بن منظور، هذا بالإضافة لتعقبه لكل مفردة، مفتشا عنها في الأحاديث والأمثال والشعر العربي، علاوة على احتفائه الخاص بآيات القرآن المجيد، إلا أن المؤلف سرى في تقديم الأسماء بغير الاتجاه الذي رسمه هو، فقد اعتمد التسلسل الأبجدي المعروف، قاصدا تسهيل تناول الأسماء، وتقديمها وفق النموذج الذي يرغبه معظم الدارسين والباحثين.
