العمر بالمعنى اللغوي هو مدّة حياة الإنسان في هذه الدنيا منذ ولادته وحتى وفاته، وعدد سنينه وأيامه، أو قل الدعاء الزمني الذي يملأ فراغه هذا أو ذاك الإنسان. ولكن ما هي قيمة العمر! وما هي أهميته؟، فرب حياة من مائة وعشرين سنة أو أكثر لا تعني شيئاً لأحد حتى بالنسبة لصاحبها، وربّ حياة من خمسين سنة أو ستين سنة تضيف إلى عمر البشرية مئات أو آلاف السنين، وتحتوي في داخلها حياة أمة بأكملها، وتستوعب حضارة قائمة بذاتها.
وهكذا كات حياة الأنبياء عليهم السلام لا سيما نبينا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم الذي انطوت فيه الإنسانية بكل أبعادها، واستوعب الزمان والمكان، بالرغم من أن عمره الشريف صلى الله عليه وسلم لم يزد على نيف وستين سنة، لكنه اسم حاضر يملأ الدنيا، وذكر خالد خلود الأبد، نبقى نتكلم فيه كل يوم ولمدى التاريخ كأفضل نموذج للإنسان، فالعمر بمعناه الحقيقي هو الحيز الذي يشغله من فكر الإنسانية وذاكرتها، وإن الحياة التي تحصر بقوسي الولادة والوفاة ولا توجد إلا في أرشيف الوفيات فقط، هي حياة لا تذكر، وغير جديرة بالعيش، بينما حياة العظماء فقط هي التي تذكر وتبقى حية في ذاكرة الوجود والوجدان، حيث تشغل حيزاً تاريخياً مشعاً لا يخفت إشاعاه تراكمات السنين. في هذا السياق يأتي كتاب "مطولات العمر وضمانة حسن الخاتمة" وفيه يلقي المؤلف الضوء على الأعمال التي من شأنها جعل أيام العمر مثمرة تضمن لصاحبها خلود ذكره بعد موته وضمان آخرة ينال فيها الخلود في جنة ونعيم وعد المتقون والعاملون بها.
