تأتي أهمية الكتابة عن مشروع الفكر المصري "حسن حذفي" من كونه واحد من الكتاب الذين أثاروا جدلاً واسعاً، في الوسط الثقافي والفكري، ودوَنت دراسات حول فكره نقصاً وتأييداً، بل وصل ذلك إلى حد التناقض بين طرفي الرفض المطلق والقبول الكامل، من هنا تأتي أهمية استكشاف أفكار هذا الفيلسوف المثيرة للذات والآخر، للروح والعقل. فهو صاحب مشروع عقلي فلسفي، ديني دينوي، خلفيته ثقافة إسلامية ومعرفة قرآنية، مشروع هدفه نقل الفلسفة إلى الواقع، إلى حقل المعرفة الشعبية، لأن الفيلسوف لديهلا يجلس في مكان مرتفع لينظر للناس من علٍ، وإنما عليه أن يعمل على تحرير المفاهيم الفلسفية من أجل الوصول بها للثورة من أجل التجديد، ورفع سلطان القداسة عن مفسَري النصوص المقدسة. يضم الكتاب مقدمة وستة فصول تصمنت العناوين الآتية: الفصل الأول: حسن حنفي.. سيرة ومسيرو، الفصل الثاني: البيئة ومصادر فكر حسن حنفي، الفصل الثالث: الأسس الفكرية لحسن الحنفي، الفصل الرابع: آراء حسن حنفي، الفصل الخامس: معارك حسن حنفي الفكرية، الفصل السادس: حيرة الداعي والفيلسوف.
من اقوال "حسن حنفي": "في مجتمعاتنا أننا ما زلنا نعيش مرحلة النقل، والإعتماد على سلطة الموروث، واستمرار علمنا من الكتب والنصوص، واستشهادنا في حياتنا العامة بأقوال القادة والحكام وكتابات أولي الأمر وخطبهم، ولكن عند الشباب المؤمن أيَ الكتب أولى بالإستشهاد: كتاب الله أن كتاب الأمير؟ (ص 176- 177)".
