إن التعبير عن الواقع الإنساني هو أحد ميزات الأدب الشعبي، وهكذا كان كتاب "إقعدْ أعوج واحكي جالس" لسلام الراسي وهو يجول بقلمه على مرّ التاريخ الإجتماعي الروحي للبنان، يجمع حكايا الناس الأحياء منهم والأموات من رجالاته الكبار ومن ناسه البسطاء. يرصد حكاية من هنا، وحكمةً من هناك فيقدمها لنا لنسترجع معاً حكايا الزمن الجميل بعد طول غياب.
في هذا الكتاب يسجل المؤلف رحلته مع الحكي والأمثال الشعبية أليس هو القائل: "يمكننا أن نعرف شخصية لبنان الحقيقية في مرويات القرويين وأمثالهم وأغانيهم: إنها مقومات حضارتهم على عراقة ثقافتهم".
وعلى هذا، يحفل الكتاب بالحكايات اللبنانية العتيقة من المأثور الشعبي بما فيها من الأمثال والأشعار والأزجال والقص الجميل ...
من عناوين الكتاب نذكر: "وتعربطت أخيراً بالسليولر" ، "الأدب الشعبي على موائد الأدب التقليدي" ، "الخيلبيص" ، "وما أدراك ما هو الخيلبص" ، "النهج الصحيح لتفسير العامي بالفصيح" ... الخ.
كان عمي أيوب يعلمني الحكمة بالأمثال الشعبية، وكان أفضل مثل علّمنيه "اقعد أعوج، واحكى جالس". وكنت أحاول أن أمتثل بهذا المثل، لأنني كنت، وما زلت، أعيش بالحكي وعلى الحكي، ويهمني أن "أحكي جالس" ولو قعدت كيفما كان.
ولكن سامح الله المجالس الثقافية التي بايعتني بمشيخة الأدب الشعبي وكأنها حكمت عليّ أن أتنكر لسائر أنواع الأدب، "فاقعد أعوج، واحكي أعوج" في مسيرة مليئة بالعثرات. وأن "أترهب" للمأثور من كلام عامة الناس وللموروث من مفاهيمهم. وأن أجعل بعض الكلمات غير القاموسية في صدارة عباراتي العربية، عن سوء نية، وأن أعتبر الحكايات والأمثال والأزجال أبلغ وسائل التعبير عن الواقع الإنساني.
