في هذا الكتاب يتتبع الأستاذ مصطفى بن محمود الفيومي الوراقي المصري حياة وآثار وأسانيد شيخ القراء " ابراهيم العبيدي الحسني " وهي ترجمة تزيل بعض مواضع الغموض في حياة هذا العالم المفرد في القراءات ، الذي - لا شك - تدور عليه أسانيد القراءات في عصره ، كما اشتمل هذا المجموع أيضاً على تحقيقه لرسالة موجزة في باب الإدغام الكبير ، من تأليف الشيخ العبيدي ، وهي تخرج لأول مرة ، وهي في مضمونها رسالة مختصرة ، جمع فيها المؤلف مسائل هذا الباب ورتبها - الإدغام الكبير - ثم نثر منظومها بعبارة سهلة وهذبها ، وحققها ، ثم سرد أسانيد العبيدي في القراءات من الطرق المشهورة المتصلة بالتلاوة له ولشيوخه ، إلى الإمام الجزريّ ...
أما موضوعات الرسالة وترتيبها ؛ فقد بدأ المؤلف بتعريف الإدغام لغة واصطلاحاً ، وذكر رواة الإدغام الكبير ومن اختُصَّ به ونُسب إليه ، ثم دخل مباشرة في الكلام على إدغام المثلين في كلمة ، وفي كلمتين ، دون أن يوضح أسباب الإدغام من تماثل أو تقارب أو تجانس ، إلا أنه ذكر موانع إدغام هذا النوع ، ثم تكلم على إدغام الحرفين المتقاربين في كلمة ، ثم كلمتين ، وذكر موانعه ، واستغرق في المتقاربين من كلمتين نحو نصف الرسالة ، وآخر ذلك إدغام حرف النون في اللام والراء . ولم يلتفت لشروط الإدغام وأسبابه ، ودخول الروم والإشمام في الإدغام ، ولكن أسلوبه كان أقرب إلى الدقة وحسن الإختصار والإستقصاء لعدد مواضع الإدغام في أكثر الصور ، مع ذكر الشواهد القرآنية على المدغمات ...
