ما جذب الناس للإقامة في الرقيم ( البترا) هو الذهب، فقد عثر الأنباط في بداية وجودهم على كتل الذهب بين الجبال، وكان جوها رائعاً والى جانبها تقع الجبة(وادي موسى)، وهو منطقة زراعية كثيرة الماء، فبدؤا يستوطنون بها حتى انتقلوا من سلع، عاصمتهم القديمة.
الرقيم أو المبرقشة، المدينة الوردية تحتضنها جبال الشراه بحنان ولا تكاد من بعيد تشعر بوجودها، ولكن القلب يخفق عند الإقتراب من الجبال الداكنة التي تحيط بها، سرح في صخورها الجميلة الملونة والتي تبدو عند الجبال آية في الروعة كأنها من صنع فنان متمهل.
