في روايته "طائر الثلج" يتناول الروائي غفور صالح عبد الله المجتمع الكردي في شمال العراق في تحولاته البطيئة ونظامه الاجتماعي وعلاقاته بالدولة والمدنية. في محاولة من الكاتب لخلق واقع ومشهد عام عاش في ظلّه الأكراد على مدى عقود بما فيه الضياع والغربة والفاقة والموت، من دون إكراه المتلقي على الانحياز إليه، مع تأثيث المشهد بقصص اجتماعية، وحالات شخصية، وقضايا عامة، وهو بهذا يؤسس لتقنيات جديدة على مستوى القصّ الروائي من حيث تكنيك القصة وموضوعها وبنائها، يتمظهر هذا الكلام أكثر بتقسيم الروائي عمله إلى أربعة (بلاغات) وقد اثار في كل بلاغ مشهداً روائياً يحيل إلى عالم مرجعي ما في (البلاغ رقم 1) نقع على مشهد امرأة وطفل تجسدان حالة العوز والفقر والتوسل قرب الجدار المحاذي للشن جدة جوانمرد أصيبت تلك الليلة بثلاث حالات إغماء وضحى جده بحياته فداء لتلك الليلة السعيدة، والبلاغ تحدث بمقتل سمكو الذي أدين بكونه مارقاً ومرتداً عن الدين، ويحيل السارد هذا التحامل على "سمكو" إلى عصر إمارة بوتان في كردستان واشتراك بدر خانيين في الثورة ضد العثمانيين وقتل سمكو لمارشمعون في كردستان الشرقية التي هي من الذنوب الخفية في التاريخ للشعب الكردي، أما البلاغ رقم (3) خصص للحديث عن شاسوار وجوانمرد بطلين رئيسين في الرواية، وهما فنانان أحدهما تشكيلي والآخر موسيقي وتربطهما علاقة مديدة ومتينة، ويدور الحديث هنا عن سبب موت شاسوار (أن شاوار أحب فتاة في الغربة لكنها تركته، فأقدم على الانتحار بأن رمى بنفسه تحت عجلات القطار، هذا ناهيك عن عشرات الأقاويل الأخرى عن موته...". في البلاغ رقم (4) غادر الروائي نهائياً طريقة أدائه، حيث يميل إلى الكشف، لينتهي إلى فكرة كان قد ذكرها في مستهل الرواية: (كان الماضي شكوكاً والحاضر شكوكاً ومن المحتمل أن يكون المستقبل شكوكاً أيضاً).
ويعدّ، "طائر الثلج" نص سردي صادق وجريء، ينقل التجربة بأمانة، عبر نفس فني وملحمي واضح أضاء جوانباً من التاريخ الاجتماعي والثقافي للكرد.
