هذا كتاب يعني بأمور فلسفية متنوعة تتعلق - على تنوعها - بقضايا يثيرها العلم بوصفه نشاطاً تحكمه قواعد وأصول بعينها، وقد قمت بصياغة بعض من هذه القضايا في كل مفارقات - مفارقة رسل في الفصل الأول، مفارقة الغدفان في الفصل الثاني، ومفارقة قودمان في الفصل الثالث - كما ناقشت بعضاً آخر منها - الذاكرة في الفصل الرابع، والقانون الطبيعي في الفصل الخامس - بوصفها مفاهيم يتعين تحليلها تواطئة للخلاص من جملة من المعضلات الفلسفية المتعلقة بمشروعية النشاط العلمي.
أما في الفصلين الأخيرين فقد عنيت بفكرة قول ما لا يقال التي تبين لي أنها تعد مركز عود مستمر لكثير من الصعوبات التي وقفت أمام الفلاسفة حائلاً دون الوصول إلى تصور متسق عن طبائع المناشط التي يمارسها العلماء.
