إسلام الساسة حقيقة بدهية في مجتمعاتنا، إذ لا فصل البتة بين الديني والسياسي في الثقافة الإسلامية، والحقيقة البدهية الأخرى هي أن السلطة السياسية ليست مجردة كلياً عن صفة القداسة، إذ إن المقدس، خفياً كان أم ظاهراً، حاضر دوماً في السلطة وملتصق بها أشد الالتصاق.
فالدين، بما هو وازع باطني ضاغط، مولد هو نفسه للطاعة والانقياد والخضوع والاستسلام لأولي الأمر. ولطالما كان الدين الموظف عندنا في السياسة هو "الحيلة التي ساهمت في تدجين العوام وأدت إلى قبولهم للعنف الذي يشرعته الدين.
وقد كان إسلام الساسة على مر التاريخ إسلام "ممسرح" يقوم على توظيف المقدس على أوسع نطاق... وكل الأشكال التي تتم بها "مسرحة" الديني –من خطاب وتوظيف للفضاء والزمن الدينيين ومراسم التنصيب والطقوس الاحتفالية وتقريب العلماء... الخ –إنما تساهم في تشكل صورة السياسي الدينية من خلال استحضار اللاوعي الجماعي لانموذج "الملك المقدس" في العصور الميثية الغابرة. وهنا بالضبط تتبدى أهمية "الكيد" في تشكيل السياسي لصورة دينية كاريزمية تهفو إليها نفوس الرعية وتنقاد لها. فالديني يغطي السياسي بلباس منتظر يسمح بحجب العرى السياسي.
