يطلع الدارس في هذا الكتاب على حملة فصول في نقد "أصول" من مصادر اللغة والأدب، فقد أعرض التحريف والتصحيف والإشتباه إلى طائفة كثيرة من مصادرنا اللغوية والأدبية منذ عصور عدة حتى غدا إصلاح النصوص المزالة عن جهتها وحقيقتها مطلباً عسيراً لا يتصدى له إلا العارفون المطلعون، وبسبب من ذلك انبرى غير واحد من علماء اللغة إلى الكتابة في هذا الباب.
لقد جاء العصر الحديث فجدت لدى أهل العلم ولا سيما الغربيين طرائق في تحقيق النصوص إبتغاء أن يتوفر لها الضبط والصحة والإتقان، وكان أن نشرت كتب كثيرة هي مصادرنا في اللغة والأدب والتاريخ وسائر علوم العربية، ولم يتهيأ لكثير من أهل التحقيق أن يفوا بالغرض فيحكموا النص أحكاماً قائماً على الصواب والسداد فيحفظوا العلم ويجنبوا الدارسين تبعة الخطأ والوهم.
ولقد عرضت في هذا الكتاب لجملة من هذه الأصول المصادر التي عرض لها الخطأ فأبتعدت عن الصواب كما عرضت لموادها اللغوية وما يتصل بها من الفوائد الأدبية والتاريخية ومن غير شك أن مادة هذا الكتاب مشاركة في الحفاظ على تراث هذه الأمة الكريمة.
