وفي ميدان الأعمال الإبداعية سبق للسعافين أن أصدر مسرحية «ليالي شمس النهار»، ومجموعة شعرية بعنوان «أفق الخيول»، إلى جانب أعماله النقدية والأكاديمية العديدة. وعلى الغلاف الأخير لـ«الطريق إلى سحماتا»، كتب الشاعر الفلسطيني زهير شايب: «يرصد هذا العمل النوستالجي الحميم حركة الجسد الفلسطيني الذي يبدو مبعثراً للوهلة الأولى حين تسلّط الضوء على جزئياته ثم ما يلبث أن يتكشف بالتدريج عن لحمة سرّية تلملم حركته المبعثرة في الزمان والمكان، بما يشبه رقصة صوفية تشكل الجسد، وترفعه من رماده، وتدفعه عالياً باتجاه ذلك الضوء الذي يخبت أبداً، فلسطين (…) رواية دافئة، ملأى بالشخصيات الإيجابية، والحراك الدائب باتجاه فلسطين، وكأن الطريق إلى (سحماتا)، المفقودة ينبغي، أن تمر من كل الأمكنة، وأن تتخضّب بكل أسئلة هذا العالم لكي تصل بالفلسطيني لا إلى وطنه العام الذي يبحث عنه، بل إلى وطنه الشخصي الخاص الذي تكمن فيه ذاته العميقة وذكرياته وعلاماته وروائحه السرّية». هنا فقرات من ختام الرواية: «تراءت له روز عروساً في المركز الاجتماعي في الرشيدية، رآها بلباس البحر في سباق مهيب، هفت نفسه إلى الماضي. خجل من شعور أطل فجأة؛ لمحة حبّ قديم تجاه روز، خجل وكأنه يبوح لها بحبّه، وقلبها يتصدع لفراق بوب، وحاول أن يوازي هذا الشعور في البعيد. فطن محمد الراعي ويد عدنان تربت على كتفه، ابتسم محمد كأنما لاحت أمامه خربة الوهادنة، لم يتوقف عدنان عند سؤال محمد الراعي عن غادة. ابتسم عدنان وهو يرى رشا وخليل يداعبان الطفل الذي سيرى النور عن قريب، لم تهرب الأحلام، حضر كل شيء فاختلطت الصور؛ عالم جديد يتشكل والمقاتلون يجوبون المنافي من جديد».
