القرآن الكريم هو كلام الله المعجز، المنزّل من لدنه تعالى على قلب رسوله محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم بلسان عربي مبين ... ولغة السّريان هي اللغة السريانية، التي تعد امتداداً للغة الآرامية في العصر المسيحي ، ويُعرف المتكلمون بها بالآراميين.
في هذا الكتاب يوضح الدكتور أجمل الجمل علاقة القرآن بلغة السريان فيقول: "إن المستشرقين قد توهموا أن كلمة القرآن لفظة سريانية الأصل، وقبلوا النظرية التي قالها المستشرق الألماني Schwally "شفالي"، وهي تعني أن لفظة القرآن مأخوذة الكلمة السريانية Geryana ...". وعلى ضوء هذه النظرية يتناول ما ورد على لسان المستشرقين من وجود ألفاظ أعجمية في القرآن، وغيرها من دراسات تناولت الألفاظ في القرآن في إطار اللغة العربية. ولمزيد من الإيضاح يعالج المؤلف اختلاف الأئمة في وقوع المعرّب في القرآن الكريم ، ثم يتناول بالدراسة الصرفية كلمة "القرآن" لعدم تناول الدراسات السابقة لها في ضوء علم اللغة المقارن بين العربية والسريانية، كما يتناول في هذه الدراسة أيضاً لفظين وردا في القرآن الكريم على لسان عيسى عليه السلام، اختلفت فيهما المصادر، وهما (سريا - أحمد) . أما لفظة (سريا) فقد وردت في قوله تعالى: "فنادتها من تحتها ألّا تحزني فقد جعل ربّك تحتك سَرِيّا" (سورة مريم، الآية 24)، وأما لفظة [أحمد] فقد وردت في قوله تعالى: "وإذ قال عيسى ابن مريم يبني إسرائيل إني رسول الله إليكم مصدقاً لما بين يدي من التوراة ومبشراً برسول يأتي من بعدي إسمه أحمد فلما جاءهم بالبيت قالوا هذا سحرٌ مبينْ، [سورة الصف، الآية 6].
وعليه، تشكل هذه الدراسة إضافة مهمة حول معاني الألفاظ (القرآن - سريا - أحمد) في القرآن الكريم، في ضوء علم اللغة المقارن بين العربية والسريانية، وقد التزم المؤلف بكتابة الكلمات السريانية بالرموز الصوتية، ليفيد منها غير المتخصص في اللغات السامية.
