يسلط هذا الكتاب الضوء على حركة رجل الدين المعاصر الدكتور موفق مهدي جاسم، الذي وضع نصب عينيه هدفاً أسمى يشمل البشرية جمعاء، الغاية النهائية منه هي: "استعادة تأريخ الإسلام القديم ووضعه في مسيرة التقدم وجعل رؤية القرآن الكريم وحكمته فعّالة في العالم الحاضر". أما الطريق إلى ذلك فهو "عبر إيجاد الله في داخل عقل الإنسان، وإيجاد شخصيته واستقلاله وكيانه".
والكتاب في مضمونه يشكل إضاءة على عقيدة المؤلف الصوفية، والذي يعكس في جانب منه مسيرة حياته الإيمانية وفلسفته الوجودية، في حركاته وسكناته، حيث يبدأ المؤلف كتابه بالحدث عن مكان ولادته "ولدت في مدينة الكاظمية خلف ضريح الإمام موسى بن جعفر الكاظم عليه السلام" وبداية تعرفه إلى ضريح الإمام وزيارته له برفقة والدته، الشيء الذي كان له عظيم الأثر فيما بعد في نظرة المؤلف إلى الحياة الدنيا، والغاية منها، وهي معرفة الله والبحث عنه في كل مكان يقول المؤلف "لقد قضيت كل عمري أبحث عن الله وانتهيت في لا شيء وقد اتضح لي فيما بعد أن اللاشيء هو الله، وأن كل شيء يأتي إلى الوجود من هذا اللا شيء". وبهذه النظرة يصعد الصوفي إلى العالم الإلهي "بوسائله وجهده الخاص، مستعملاً عقله التحليلي" ويتابع "الصوفي يصعد إلى العالم الإلهي عن طريق النزول والغوص في أعماق عقله الباطن" بهذا الحضور الروحاني ويتحد الصوفي مع الله، ويجده في كل مظهر من مظاهر الحياة" إلهام مباشر روحي يفوق كل تعاليم المؤسسات الدينية الموجودة ... يمكن أن نتعلم أن الله ليس موجوداً في شكل من الأشكال وليس له كيان يمكن الإحساس به، وأن الحقيقة القصوى هي الإتحاد مع الله "الله أحد" ...".
