هذا الكتاب ليس رواية الحج كما إنه ليس مناسكاً للحج ولا يغني قارئه عن الحاجة إلى كتاب المناسك، ولكنه يخطو مع المناسك خطوة بعد خطوة، وقد دون بموازاة أعمال الحج، والهدف من تأليفه هو تبيان باطن الحج الخفي وراء ظاهره، وروح كل تلك الأعمال والفرائض التي تجري في الحج، ودورها في تربية روح الإنسان والسمو به.
ورغم أن الكاتب يعلم أن تبيان أسرار الحج على حقيقتها أمر خارج عن طاقته، لكنه سعى بما أوتي من قدرة أن يتعرف وباختصار على أسرار الحج وأهدافه، لذلك شبه الحج في كتابه هذا بالصلاة الكبرى التي يجب على كل مسلم يستطيع التشرف بزيارة بيت الله الحرام، عليه أن يؤدي هذه الصلاة ولو لمرة واحدة في عمره، وأن يتخذ من هذه الصلاة الكبرى نموذجاً له في صلواته اليومية الواجبة.
