يعالج الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا العلاقات اليهودية الإسلامية في يثرب وجوارها منذ بداية الدعوة الإسلامية. ويسلط الضوء بشكل مقتضب حول الأصول التاريخية للنشأة اليهودية، بالإضافة إلى شرح عدد من المصطلحات التي يعرفون بها. ثم هو يبرز أهمية موقع يثرب الجغرافي كمنطقة استراتيجية استقطبت الجاليات اليهودية وأهمها: بنو قينقاع-بنو النضير وبنو قريظة- والدوافع التي كانت وراء اختيار يثرب وجوارها لتمركز هذه البطون اليهودية بجانب القبائل العربية التي كانت تشكل الإضافة إلى الأوس والخزرج النواة الأساسية الديمغرافية للاجتماع اليثربي. والمهن التي مارسوها من زراعة وتجارة وبعد الصناعات الحرفية وغيرها.
ويشير الكتاب إلى ما رافق ظهور الدعوة الإسلامية من إثارة المشاكل والعراقيل والمعوقات في وجهها من قبل اليهود وبعض الشخصيات العربية المتضررة من الدعوة الجديدة، على الرغم من محاولة النبي تخطي هذه المرحلة بشكل هادئ، باعتماده آلية تنظيم للعلاقات معهم من خلال وثيقة بل وثائق حددت دورهم ومنحتهم حرية التحرك وفق المنظور الإسلامي، وما تبع ذلك من تدهور أدى إلى الصدام المسلح فيما بعد.
وتنويراً للرأي العام الإسلامي والعربي، وبهدف معرفة الذهنية اليهودية التي تحكم مختلف القضايا في التعاطي المتبادل مع الآخر، وأهم السبل والآليات التي تعتمدها، اقتضى ذلك معالجة جانب هام من التراث الثقافي والوثيق الصلة بهويتنا السياسية والاجتماعية المعاصرة.
