في البدء كانت الكلمة أعني الفكر يشخص ويتجسم فيضحي عملاً، والفكر ازدواجية الفاعل والمفعول فكأنها ثنائية في الوحدة، كما أن العمل شركة.
أفقت يوماً فإذا بي في الوجود أتأثر بما حولي وأفعل فيه، يحدني الزمان والمكان وليس لأشواقي حدود. تتجاذبني العوامل والدوافع فلا قرار لي، ومع ذلك أرى في ذاتي دواماً. وأنا الجاهل أصبو إلى العلم. ثم أحتار بين حب الانفراد والانخراط في الجماعة. يقدرني بعضهم وينابذني آخرون والبعض يخشاني. منهم من يفهم وغيرهم لا يفهم. أتقلب بين وجه الله وسخافات الغريزة. أسمو أحياناً وأنحط أخرى، فأنا الملاك وأنا البهيمة. ومن حولي عالم مبهم تماشى فيه المعقول والمحال واختلط القبح والجمال وتجاور الصديق والمجرم. فهنا النور والظلمات هناك.
فكان الوجه ضحوكاً والقلب حائراً. أنظر إلى غيري فأراه إما يجهل المشاكل وإما يرزح تحتها، فإن جهل فلن يدرك وإن رزح فكيف أرهقه؟ علي أستطيع أن آتيه بقبس.
الحيرة هي البحث، والقبس هو الكلمة والعمل.
طالما راقبت وقرأت وعاشرت واختبرت. فقد استهوتني الألغاز. أهي لعنة أم نعمة لست أدري. أعد التهرب مخادعة أو هجانة. فرأس الأصالة أن تحدق وتسأل.
ستجد هنا بعض ما عانته الروح. وقد يود بعضهم لو أدرج ذلك في سياق واحد. ولكن موضوعي ليس درساً ولا مرافقة ولا جدالاً. إنما هي شهادة قد تضمر على مستوى النظريات وهي في الواقع ذات شأن.
أما أن تستصعب الكتاب، فاذكر قول جحا إن من عرف أدرك ومن لم يعرف فلن يدرك شيئاً. وغاية المنى أن يقرأ القارئون فيشعروا بصدى ما في نفوسهم من أنغام رائعة نود لو تسمع.
